Crashes that say something about "COMCTL32.DLL" Not 100% sure this fixes it, but especially if you have an older version of Internet Explorer or Windows, try getting this updated file from Microsoft. Crashes when Downloads are scanned by Norton There have been some reports of crashes when a download finishes and is scanned by Norton anti-virus software. To fix this, use the /M- and /B- switch to disable checking memory and the boot record when checking the newly downloaded file. In the configurations "Virus Program to Use" option, set it up like this: C:\SYSTEM~1\NORTON~1\NAVW32.EXE /B- /M-

Get error "The GETRIGHT.EXE file is linked to missing export Oleaut32.DLL:420". Some people seem to have gotten an older version of the OLE files that don't work with GetRight. Try re-installing some "big" product like MS Word or Excel that updates all those files, or if you don't have one of those, the latest VB files from Microsoft will update it too. GetRight Browser or View Transfer Details windows don't open. This is caused by an older version of the RICHTX32.OCX file GetRight uses being on your computer. You can download and run this small installer to install the version of this file that comes with GetRight (if it is newer than the one on your computer). This has fixed it for most people. GetRight and Punkbuster The Punkbuster program will crash if GetRight is running (and because of the reason, likely will crash for a number of other programs too.) We've talked to them, and hopefully there will be a fix soon. But for now Punkbuster is recommending to just close GetRight or other conflicting programs when using their software.

GetRight crashes within a few seconds of starting up This can be caused by having the GetRight folder read-only. Check that the GetRight folder (normally C:\Program Files\GetRight) isn't read-only, and if using more than one user account, that the account has privileges to write to that folder.

GetRight locks up downloading from some sites. If you are using anonymous cookie tools, try: the Advanced configuration page in GetRight, turn off the "Use Cookies from web browser" item. This has fixed these lockups for some people. Update for GetRight 4.5: This setting has moved to the "Advanced/Protocols" configuration page.

I get error of GetRight crashing in "LSPCS.DLL". CyberSitter (a parental control program) seems to cause this error in GetRight. Try turning off CyberSitter, or uninstalling it.

McAfee thinks GetRight is infected March 24, 2004. We all got our daily McAfee virus scanner updates today, and suddenly McAfee thinks a number of the recent versions of GetRight (5.01 and 5.02) are infected with a virus: W32/Gaobot.worm.tm. GetRight is NOT infected, it is a false message from McAfee...but McAfee also then deletes your GetRight.exe file to "clean" this "infection"! Fortunately, the new GetRight 5.1 version isn't flagged and works fine. Update: McAfee has fixed their scanner updates, so now works right and doesn't give the message. Fortunately, the new 5.1 version wasn't flagged either and works fine. So if GetRight got deleted, please upgrade to GetRight 5.1! See also: Upgrade GetRight http://www.getright.com/get.html

Occasional lockups or crashes. While I haven't figured out all the causes of crashes, or why all of these would avoid crashes; some things that people have found which stop occasional crashes of GetRight: In general, if you're getting any odd crashes in GetRight, try removing any browsing accelerators, cookie tools, or parental control software--they seem to be a common cause of these strange crashes. Using older versions of NetSonic seems to cause many crashes in GetRight (usually in KERNEL32.DLL). Upgrading to the latest NetSonic (or Uninstalling the older version) should fix the problem. Crash in module "AOLSP.DLL". The AdsOff program seems to cause this in GetRight. Uninstalling AdsOff does file this one. Using Anonymous Cookie Tools. Using Nuts & Bolts. Try turning it off. Using CyberSitter. Try turning it off. Using AdsOff. Try turning it off (and maybe try AdWiper!) Using Matrox video cards. Try changing the color depth (especially to something other than 24-bit color) or screen resolution--these have helped some people. Using Windows NT and GetRight crashes when opening the "Configuration" window. When Control Panel->Services->Service->Remote Access Connection Manager is set to Disabled, then GetRight finds the dial-up networking files, and attempts to use them, but since they have been disabled by the operating system, GetRight crashes with an error. The quickest fix is to not disable them... A very odd one actually crashes in Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 4.0x, possibly others). Some people have had odd crashes in IE, especially clicking the "Back" button. It has fixed this for several people by: in Internet Explorer, pick the "View" menu, then "Internet Options...". In the "Temporary Internet Files" box, click the "Settings" button. Change the check for newer versions of stored pages from "Every time you start Internet Explorer" to "Every visit to the page".
