GetRight Support

Click monitoring doesn't work on a specific web site. Why?
  • Sites which use scripted re-directs to files (such as CGI, ASP, or javascript) can confuse GetRight. Try holding CTRL and ALT when clicking the link you want if it isn't working automatically. This will force GetRight to try and download the file.

  • Click monitoring stopped working all of a sudden. Why?
  • If you've recently upgraded or re-installed your browser (or upgraded Windows) That might have written over GetRight's Click monitoring settings. Go to the "monitor" page of the configuration window and turn click monitoring off (close the window to apply the changes) then go back and turn click monitoring back on.
  • Another possibility is that some sites which use CGI re-directs to files can confuse GetRight. Try holding CTRL and ALT when clicking the link you want if it isn't working automatically. This will force GetRight to try and download the file.

  • GetRight downloads slower than my browser. Why is that?
  • If you have used TweakDUN, or other similar programs which are supposed to speed up your transfers, they seem to have the opposite effect in GetRight. Try disabling them or reverting to the original settings and see if that helps.
  • If you use a proxy server to connect to the internet, check the proxy settings in GetRight (the proxy page of GetRight's configuration.) Incorrect or missing settings can cause GetRight to download slowly.

  • How do I set up an auto-proxy?
  • If you can download the auto-proxy PAC file (this is what you are linking to in your browser). Then view it in Notepad, it will contain the actual proxy settings. Enter these into GetRight's proxy field. GetRight 4.0 and higher will also prompt about processing the file itself and try to find the proxy settings...but if it can't find them, you may still be able to find them by viewing the file in Notepad.

  • How do I upgrade?
Do I have to pay for upgrades?

  • So far, all upgrades are FREE! If you've bought any version of GetRight, you may upgrade to the latest version for FREE.
  • Download the shareware version from here and install it over your older version. This will upgrade and keep your settings and registration (if applicable).

  • Speeding up Downloads 1: Find Mirror Servers
GetRight has several ways to automatically find Mirror sites where you can download the file. GetRight will automatically calculate Mirrors for many popular sites (such as TUCOWS). You may also use FTP Searching to find more Mirror locations for a file. This uses a server such as ftpsearch.lycos.com that lets you search for mirrors of a file with the same file name.
GetRight can do this FTP Searching for you: press the Options button when a file is downloading, and pick the "Search for Alternates" item in the menu.
Or if the site where you found the file to download lists several Mirrors, just click a few. GetRight will automatically add them as Mirrors when the file name is the same.

    For more information, see http://www.getright.com/fastest.html

Speeding up Downloads 2: Find the Fastest Mirror
A server close to you is likely to be faster than one on the other side of the Earth. GetRight will periodically "Ping" each of the mirror servers for the file to see which is likely to be the fastest, and then will automatically switch to download from the fastest.
You can tell GetRight to recalculate the fastest yourself. Press the Options button when a file is downloading, and pick the "Recalculate Speeds" item in the menu.

Speeding up Downloads 3: Segmented Downloading, aka: Download Acceleration
Segmenting a file allows GetRight to download different parts of the same file at the same time. For example, GetRight would start at the beginning of the file from server A, and at the middle of the file from server B.
Depending on your Internet connection, this can dramatically improve the download speed...GetRight 4.3 allows up to eight Segments, so your downloads can be up to eight times as fast as regular downloading**! (Earlier verisons allowed 4 or 6 segments.)
To tell GetRight to use Segmenting when downloading a file, press the Options button when a file is downloading, and pick the "Segmented Downloading" item in the menu, then the number of Segments to use!
You may also configure GetRight to always use segmented downloading from the Segment page of GetRight's configuration.

** The results of Segmented Downloading will vary depending on your Internet connection, your ISP and their connection to the Internet, the servers you're downloading from, and just the Internet in general. If you are not reaching the download speed at which your modem is connected, Segmented downloading can really help.

The "Enter Code" button is grayed out
Download and run this file (less than 1K in size). This will bring back the "Enter Code" field.
This will also fix if you do have a good paid-for code, but GetRight says it is not valid when you type it in.

The download window says "connecting" but doesn't. What's wrong?
  • If you use a proxy server to connect to the internet, check the proxy settings in GetRight (the proxy page of GetRight's configuration.) Incorrect or missing settings can cause GetRight never to connect.
