downloading More... Acting as Server with security programs Some Internet security programs (like ZoneAlarm) can give a warning that GetRight is trying to act as a server on some downloads. This is caused by part of how the FTP protocol can work...the FTP server you are downloading from can connect back to GetRight for sending the actual file you want. GetRight can be set to do FTP connections differently: On the Proxy configuration page in GetRight, check the very top box about "Use PASV mode for FTP transfers." That will have GetRight always connect out so should avoid the prompt. CRC errors CRC Errors usually mean that the file did not download correctly. Try re-downloading the file. Disk activity when using CA Innoculate IT This is an Antivirus program from Computer Associate. It causes a lot of disk activity when GetRight is downloading. Not sure there's a fix other than using a different virus scanner… There might be a fix coming in GetRight version 5.0. Go to the 5.0 "Advanced/Saving" configuraion screen and use the "Extra File Write Cacheing." If the antivirus is scanning as things are written to disk, this could help, by having GetRight write bigger blocks of information less often. Downloading Problems with ZoneAlarm Pro If downloads aren't working propperly and you have Zone Alarm Pro, make sure GetRight is not set with "Privacy On" on the "Program Control" options page in Zone Alarm. Downloading from SimTel sites If you are having trouble downloading from SimTel sites, download the file below (very small, less thank 1k). This will change a setting that will make these downloads work better. See also: monitor_updates101.zip. Downloading from Yahoo Groups GetRight 5.0 can now download from yahoo groups. But it takes some extra configuration. See link below. For more information, click here. Error 403 The site you are trying to access may require special access permission (such as a password). You might need to configure a login/password within Getright for the server you are downloading from. This can be done from the 'Login' page of GetRight's configuration. Some other things to check: General problems downloading from FTP servers Try switching on PASV mode from the 'proxy' page of Getright's configuration window. This has helped many people who are having trouble downloading from FTP servers. GetRight and Opera Browser There is a plug-in available to allow Getright to support click-monitoring in Opera. You can also right-click the link and select "copy link address" to start downloads. If you have used TweakDUN, or other similar programs which are supposed to speed up your transfers, they seem to have the opposite effect in GetRight. Try disabling them or reverting to the original settings and see if that helps. Windows 98 can also do this itself. Try going into your Control Panel and open "Network". Click on "Dial Up Adapter" then the "Properties" button. Click on the "Advanced" page, and select "IP Packet Size" change this value from "Automatic" to "Small". Click OK and reboot as needed. |
