Getting More... 1. Installing Download the install program from here. After you have the .EXE file, just run it from Windows. (If you already have installed GetRight, you do not need to uninstall it, just install the newer version over the older version.) The setup program will ask you some questions to guide you thru the setup process. If you wish to have a simpler interface with many of the more advanced functions hidden, pick the "Basic" mode when asked in the Setup program. Unless you have special needs, you should accept the default values for all the other items.
Just use your web browser as usual. GetRight adds into your web browser (Netscape Navigator and Microsoft IE 4.0 or higher) so that starting downloads with GetRight is as easy as clicking in your web browser. When you click on a file to download, GetRight will take over and show its own "Save As" window and Download window. (If you use a different web browser, here for Opera or look in the Help file about starting downloads.) Tip: Some sites do things differently so may not work quite as transparently with GetRight. If there is a file that GetRight is not catching, try holding the CTRL and ALT keys down when you click the item in your web browser. That will tell GetRight to do any file. If a download stops for any reason, you can easily resume it with GetRight. If the download window is no longer showing (such as if your computer has 4. More Advanced Features Nearly all of the more advanced features are available Another good next step is to read the Tips to get the Fastest Downloads. There seem to be a few people getting a blank screen in the browser after GetRight takes over the download. In Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, then pick the Internet Options menu, then switch to the Advanced tab. Under the Browsing item, make sure the "Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)" item is Checked. For more information, click here. Crashes that say something about "COMCTL32.DLL" Not 100% sure this fixes it, but especially if you have an older version of Internet Explorer or Windows, try getting this updated file from Microsoft. See also: Microsoft's download page for this update. See also: Download COMCTL32 update file. Getting "Connection Refused" errors for everything If you have ZoneAlarm installed, even if it is turned off from your tray icons, it can still be blocking any new programs. And with its tray icon off, it doesn't prompt when new programs are added. To fix, start ZoneAlarm in your tray icons (Windows Start button, the Programs, then it is in Zone Labs.) Then try to download something in GetRight--ZoneAlarm should then prompt so you can select "remember" and click "Yes". Then you can close ZoneAlarm again and GetRight should work withoug problems. (Note, next time you upgrade GetRight, you'll have to repeat this process!) You can setup usernames and passwords for servers you use often on the Login Configuration page. You may set the username and password for any existing downloads on the Download Status window. Use the "Change Username and Password" item under the Advanced menu. GetRight will also accept URLs with the format: NOTE: GetRight will have trouble getting the correct username and password from these formats if your username or password contains the characters: / or @ or : To avoid problems, don't use those characters in your usernames or passwords. All the Proxy setup options are on the Proxy configuration page. I have my registration number, where do I enter it? Once you have received your registration code you must enter the number into GetRight to tell GetRight that you have registered. You may enter the number by: Right click on the GetRight Logo tray icon, then pick "Buy GetRight" from the menu, then pick "Enter Code" from the sub-menu. NOTE: If the "Enter Code" buttons are disabled, it is probably because someone used one of the "pirated" registration codes that have been illegally posted on the Internet. After you have legally registered (see here), contact us -- Please include the name and email address you used to register to speed up getting help. |
